One employee record, not one per department
The usual failure in small-business HR is not a missing feature, it is a second list. Someone is in the payroll system, in the HR system and on the rota, and the three disagree by the end of the quarter. There is one Employee record here, and every surface that needs a person reads it.
One employee aggregate, shared
The employee HR manages is the same record job costing, dispatch eligibility and payroll read. Not a sync, not a nightly job — the same row.
- Employee profiles with employment detail on the person record
- The same record payroll reads, so a leaver is a leaver everywhere at once
- Dispatch eligibility and labour rates hang off it rather than duplicating it
Positions are seats on the org chart
A position is a seat, and an empty seat IS the open role. That is deliberately simpler than a requisition workflow, and we would rather say so than imply an ATS we have not built.
- Org-chart positions with the reporting line visible
- An empty seat is the vacancy — no separate requisition record to keep in step
- The org chart is part of the free layer, not a paid HR add-on
Time off people can file themselves
Leave is self-service: anyone files their own, rather than emailing a manager who forwards it to whoever keeps the spreadsheet.
- Anyone files their own leave; managing others is permission-gated
- Requests sit against the same employee record as everything else
- Visible to the people who need to plan around it
What HR runs on
Hold this on its own, or add the modules beside it when you want them — they share one login and one set of records. See the module library and pricing.

Questions buyers ask
Is this a separate system from payroll?
No, and that is the point. There is one Employee record; payroll reads the same one HR manages. Two registries that have to be reconciled is the specific failure this is designed to avoid, so we did not build a second one.
Do you do applicant tracking?
Not yet. Positions are org-chart seats, and an empty seat is the open role — there is no requisition or candidate pipeline entity today. We would rather name that gap than let "positions" read as an ATS.
Can employees request their own time off?
Yes, filing leave is self-service for anyone. Managing other people's requests is gated by permission, so the two things are separated properly rather than everything sitting behind an admin role.
What do we get for free?
The org chart, meetings and quarterly goals are free — they are how a company sees itself, not a tool you should have to buy. HR as a module adds the employee records, positions and time off on top.
